ghd Australia rocks September Fashion Weeks
07 October 2008

ghd hit the International Fashion Week Festivals over the month of September, styling for four shows in three countries and working with a team of leading catwalk hair stylists and fashion labels.

Beginning on September 11, ghd travelled to New York with uber session stylist Sophie Roberts, who directed the hair for luxurious label WILLOW’s offsite installation.   Presenting her SACRED TRACE S/S 09 collection inspired by Vaslav Nijinsky and the Ballets Russes, Kit Willow-Podgornik’s latest collection was rich in texture, featuring the idea of motion, movement and expression through draped, flowing frocks and pants with billowy, animal-print looks, topped with embellished vests and scarves.  Also making the journey to the Big Apple was ghd Directive member Jon Pulitano, who worked with Sophie to create the look for WILLOW using ghd’s range of IV stylers and thermodynamics product.

In an opening spectacular to Air New Zealand Fashion Week (ANZFW), ghd partnered with eclectic fashion duo, WORLD, who’s anticipated return after four years away provided a theatrical and dazzling start to the week-long event.  Renowned session stylist Brent Lawler flew in especially from New York to direct and style the show for ghd, crafting 20 unique hair pieces taking almost a month to complete, each unique and complementing the individual outfits sent onto the runway.

One hour later at 12pm on September 16, Kieran Street of Valonz Hair in Sydney made his debut as a ghd hair director styling Kirrily Johnston, the first ever Australian designer to feature as part of the fashion event.  With inspiration drawn from the decadents that frequented the underground opium dens of Paris and Shanghai in the early 1900s, Johnston’s Black Perfume collection brought opulence to the runway, featuring flowing dresses, gorgeous knitwear, leathers and silks in palates of burnt orange gold and creams.

Finally, on September 19, ghd hit London for the coveted debut of Josh Goot into the British market.  Sophie Roberts lead the hair direction for the design guru, again assisted by ghd Directive Jon Pulitano plus members of the UK contingent. Delivering an upbeat collection awash in colour, his minimalistic designs in dreamy chiffon and silk had the London crowd transfixed.

The Alex Perry haute couture collection - one of the most anticipated shows of the week - is also a favourite among celebrities with attendees including Miranda Kerr, Megan Gale, Tom Williams, Jodhi Meares, Erin McNaught, Holly Brisley, Brian McFadden, Tara Moss and Jessica Origliasso. Alex Perry approached ghd to direct hair at the label’s RAFW show after a successful collaboration as part of Australia's Next Top Model. According to Perry, "We had an amazing shoot and ghd styled the most extraordinary hair... so European, glamorous... ultimately Perrylicious!" The week long event (held 28th April to 2nd May) also saw ghd direct hair for labels, Shakuhachi, Ruby Smallbone, Konstantina Mittas, Manning Cartell and Marnie Skillings.
