GORGEOUSLY GOTHIC
The trend for gothic, darkly atmospheric makeup is going nowhere; not even for spring and summer. When other styles turn towards fresh, soft and sun kissed complexions, pastel and bubble-gum pink shading or nude and toffee hues, the moody Goth trend stays firmly rooted in place.
In order to fit with the season, a few tweaks have been made to this shadowy style. The look is altogether more romantic and has a pretty side to it which has not been seen before. The style oozes with a Victorian theatricality; Marc Jacobs led the way, enlisting iconic makeup artist Francois Nars to create a dramatic makeover for his models. Dark, blood red lipstick was painted on in a way which exaggerated the lip line, making it bigger, sharper and bolder, whilst the eyes were lined with streaks of black and white.
Elsewhere on the catwalks, faces powdered in white for a velvety surface became a canvas for layers and layers of charcoal mascara, bold sweeps of black eyeliner and shady lips. It’s an unexpected look for spring, but one which can be surprisingly beautiful. The pretty Goth has all eyes on her, proudly making a stylish statement and getting people talking.
