FEELING SASSY

Fantastical eyelashes

At London Fashion Week Sass and Bide celebrated their 10th anniversary. The designer pair behind the hip Aussie brand, Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clark, filled their 2010 Spring/Summer collection with simple silhouettes decorated in heavy embellishment. Prepare to fall for loose fitting harem trousers, flowing Grecian dresses and racer-back tops glammed up with Aztec detailing which gives the relaxed brand real wow factor.

Hair director Sophie Roberts and the ghd Directive were on hand to coif the models' hair into lightly mussed half up-dos which summed up the collection's laid back yet elegant character. Long tresses were softly pulled away from the face onto the top of the head into an almost quiff-like height, before falling down the back in one long stretch.

The casual sophistication of the clothes and the undone, chic locks makes for an effortlessly cool style that lives up to its namesake, offering plenty of 'sass' to 'bide' your time with.

GLAM GRUNGE

ZOYA nail polish in freja

Beauty is taking a grungy stance this season with dark grey eyes, layers of mascara and pale skin. Smoky eyes are finding a new form with glossy textures, slept-in eyeliner and hints of silver and mushroom.

Not the most practical trend, this penchant for gothic style is best saved for the night and whilst lashings of lace and dense eye shadow will turn heads on the dance floor, it attracts only negative emotion in the office.

To capture the grunge look without going all the way, look towards your finger tips. Deliciously dark nail colours give a gentle nod to the trend. Taupe and mink shades are the perfect compromise between neutral hues and gothic colour and are soft enough to be worn whilst you get your morning coffee. For ultimate day to night colour opt for a warm grey, which gives a refined yet edgy glamour to all outfits.

SPACE AGE

Fashion is looking forward and this season the futurism trend has a tough and sturdy attitude. Drop your floral prints and frilly hemlines from last year and embrace strong, sculpted dresses and robotic jackets.

Space age silhouettes are big news this autumn, as are fresh textures and modern, metallic colours. Thanks to Balmain’s Autumn Winter collection, full of glittering body-con dresses with enhanced shoulders, the focus of the trend is the big shoulder. Eighties style enormous puffed up sleeves, structured wings and stiff shoulder pads are rocketing on to the high street and designer rails alike.

To keep the look on-trend and up to date, shimmering textures and chromatic hues pull the style away from retro and in to the future. Cutting-edge silver and gun-metal lamé clings to the body and enhances curves while simple black adds a refined edge. For some extra dazzle, add sparkling sequins or chunky crystals.

SIDE TO SIDE

hair beauty

This autumn, hair partings have a strong side sweep, falling across the face in a blunt line, rolling into waves or slicked backwards.

Side partings may look high maintenance but they're versatile, working with any hair cut and type.

At the Autumn Paris Fashion Week, sleek, straight locks were out in force at the Collette Dinnigan show, providing a sharp yet demure approach.

To achieve this smooth style, work ghd obedience cream through your hair prior to blow drying, to ensure frizz is tamed. Add radiant lustre to straightened hair with ghd polishing serum.

At the other end of the scale the voluminous, soft hair at Chloe gave a different and boldly sexy take on the trend. ghd uplift spray will achieve similar volume at the roots allowing locks to swish with voluptuous bounce.

A change of parting adds interest and is a quick route to an easy change; take a walk on the wild side this season.
