LONDON FASHION WEEK FASHION REPORT
With London Fashion Week over, the predicted trends for Autumn Winter 2010 are already on the minds of the style-conscious. Here’s the low down of the big trends to come.
Next winter is going to be warm and cosy, as a trend for thick and fluffy sheepskin was made apparent at last month’s London Fashion Week. Whether worn as an inside lining or on the face of jackets and coats, like at Burberry, everyone in the know will be wrapping themselves in this chunky, soft material. Even toes will be looking fashionable, with Mulberry’s sheepskin-lined boots at the top of every fashionista’s wish list.
By the year’s end, shimmering metallic hues will be a prevalent style for festive parties and night time outings. Put any traditional gold and silver behind you though; this year the trend for metals is all about elegant, high-shine black, dirty bronze and liquid platinum.
Where footwear is concerned, a winter wardrobe isn’t the same without a kicking set of boots. Next season, a new boot shape is coming; the wide ankle. Loose, baggy and gaping around the ankle it’s practical and oh-so-chic with slim trousers or jeans in cold weather whilst remaining a cutting edge and covetable trend.

BURBERRY CATWALK REPORT

It was only the design house’s second season showing in London, but at Burberry’s London Fashion Week show the celebrities were out in droves for a glimpse of the upcoming Winter collection. Mary Kate Olsen, Olivia Palermo, Kate Hudson, Kristen Stewart and Mario Testino all lined the impressive front row in the hope of discovering a new outfit for autumn.
Christopher Bailey, the Yorkshire man behind the label’s designs, created a collection that was a clear nod to the military services, even going as far to describe the runway models as Burberry’s very own cadets. Sheepskin pilot jackets, khaki shaded suits, trench coats and officer’s coats were emblazoned with zips and buckles and paraded down the catwalk to much fanfare.
The designer pieces weren’t all robust, masculine and martial in their appeal however. Figure hugging dresses created from sensual satin and lace were peppered throughout the collection teamed with leather and snakeskin over-the knee boots. The addition of such light and airy pieces to sumptuous fabrics like fur, suede and pony-skin gave Burberry’s winter wardrobe a sexy, seductive look.
Delicate and romantic on the inside, but with a tough and hardy exterior; Burberry’s new collection is designed to entice and enthral.

MILAN FASHION WEEK FASHION REPORT
At Milan Fashion Week it seems that the designers have a one track mind, with daringly short mini dresses and raunchy fabrics pushing their way to the top of next season’s trends.
Emilio Pucci led the way, with wisps of sheer lace and chiffon providing barely-there dresses to meagrely cover the model’s forms. Teensy slips, back-revealing gowns and clinging, stretch trousers were all created to provoke desire and stir emotions. The collection, full of see-through lace, floating chiffon, crystals and mink, was heavily influenced by lingerie and luxury.
Donatella Versace championed an attention seeking, ultra-glam style as always. Fitting with the trend for showing lots of leg, her miniscule designs had a tougher feel to them, using metallic leather patchwork to generate sensuous dresses in bright yellow, blue, silver and gold. The final look was one of high-watt glamour and unapologetic sex appeal.
Elsewhere, Alberta Ferretti went against the grain and opted for the designer’s signature look; romance and femininity. A gentle, neutral palette of pale, nude shades, antique cream and vintage green immediately made the collection pretty and sweet. Twenties style dresses fell past the knee or flared outwards, in a dignified alternative to the highly charged, micro-dresses of Pucci and Versace.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK HAIR AND BEAUTY REPORT
The key hair and beauty trends which appeared at New York Fashion Week were an unapologetic reflection of The Big Apple itself; dynamic, cosmopolitan and eclectic.
One prevailing look throughout all the Autumn/Winter collections was the dramatic lip. Next season expect to see lots of grungy lipstick shades adorning stylish pouts. Hues will vary from dark violets as seen at Peter Som to the classic red at Donna Karen or even Doo.ri style burgundy shaded glitter for the truly intrepid. Ideal for winter, a bold lip looks all the more remarkable against a pale yet glowing complexion and is the fastest way to take your makeup from day to night.
Hair took on an imperfect image during the New York shows. The emphasis was placed on tresses looking lived-in and real, rather than high maintenance and stiff. At Zac Posen, Odile Gilbert was given the brief that hair should look like it had been perfectly crafted the night before, but then slept in. Elsewhere, Marc Jacobs sent his models down the runway with hair which was easy and simple. The locks were glossy with health and vitality but left mostly un-done with natural movement and shape. After all, nobody’s perfect.
