INSIDE OUT

There’s a very cheeky new style on the horizon for spring. The trend for underwear worn as outerwear is daring, fun and just a little bit naughty.
Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent and Alexander Wang were just some of the many designers who let lingerie inspired pieces reveal themselves on the catwalk and the high street is backing them up with a range of crop tops, bralets, ruffles and lace.
Underwear’s new role as outerwear may conjure up images of Lady Gaga in her flesh revealing knickers and bodysuits, but this trend needn’t be so risky to wear. Worked into outfits in a subtle and inconspicuous way, underwear on show can be sultry and ever so seductive.
Take a pass on going out in your smalls and instead remember the motto ‘the devil is in the detail’. A glimpse of lace, hints of silk, glances of corsetry and touches of sheer fabrics all have whispers of lingerie without being too obvious.
In order to wear this trend tastefully and beautifully, opt for nude and neutral shades and lots of layering. A silky camisole peeping out from underneath a blazer or a corset style slip dress matched with an oversized cardigan gives the look a refined and classy finish.

LONDON FASHION WEEK HAIR AND BEAUTY REPORT

This season’s London Fashion week had a minimalist nineties feel running throughout the makeup and hair styles. Carrying on from New York Fashion Week, simple, unfussy and clean were all buzzwords flying around; making sure minimalism is predicted as the big trend for Autumn Winter 2010.
Colour palettes are soft and neutral in makeup, with tonal hues gently complementing each other. It’s an extension on the summer super-skin trend, as washes of taupe, mink and sand are applied to eyes and cheeks with a feather-light touch at Erdem, Jaeger and Pringle of Scotland. When makeup wants to take on a darker or more dramatic appeal, heavy and deep lips were the popular choice. Antonia Berardi took on another nineties trend, grunge, painting the lip with a gothic shade of black-red.
When it comes to hair it’s all about the texture – luxury locks will be ruling next season, with a glossy quality and look. Styling is split into two camps; simple or dramatic. Uncomplicated yet masculine hair was in favour at shows like Hakaan, with androgynous partings and hair tucked behind the ears, or textured locks which are unashamedly big and bold. So, which team will you be backing next season?

MILAN FASHION WEEK HAIR AND BEAUTY REPORT

Whilst Milan Fashion Week followed in New York and London’s footsteps for natural looking, fresh hair and makeup with a nineties minimalist feel, it has also swayed towards statement looks which are fierce in their attention grabbing.
The smoky eye, as sported by models at Rocco Barocco and DSquared2, has been given a makeover; taking it from a classic cosmetic style to a modern make-up look with one swish of an eye shadow brush. The new smoked-out eye is heavy with strong, rich colour and layered shadows fading outwards. The look was further exaggerated with an intense red pucker, reminiscent of a Robert Palmer video, and hair pulled backwards to strengthen the bold face.
Sex kitten locks took centre stage, making big blow-outs a necessity for the Autumn/Winter season. At Versace and Blumarine the hairstyles were soft and gleaming with locks worn down, begging to have fingers running though them. This is touchy feely hair at its very best.
In stark contrast to the bombshell hair swooshing down Blumarine’s catwalk, the pixie cut is also set to be an upcoming winter trend. At Emporio Armani models sported short, sharp crops that sat above the ear, falling in front of the face.

SLEEPY HEAD

Proving that Kate Moss has a lot to answer for; slightly dishevelled and messed up locks are going to be big this season. The inspiration for this unkempt hairstyle is fixated on the morning after a fabulous party; rolling out of bed too late in the day to fix any unruly tresses.
The Just Cavalli girl is leading the way for this morning after trend. In the Spring Summer show, Cavalli sent his models strutting down the catwalk in laddered knitwear and jumpers dappled with holes, ripped jeans and tasselled heels. It was a grungy collection and the hair was no different; untidy, uncombed and tousled it remained silky soft and touchable thanks to a healthy dose of conditioning. Invest in ghd rejuvenation cream to get you locks in tip top shape for this undone yet slinky style.
Elsewhere, at Fendi, hair stylist Sam McKnight spun hair into a sleepy up do. The deconstructed top knot was placed just above the forehead in a quick, just-done style which was haphazardly placed just over the forehead. The final look was thrown together, with strands of hair falling over one eye, yet seductive and glamorous.
Put simply, vaguely scruffy but oh-so-pretty hair is low maintenance and casual elegance.
