New York Fashion Week Report

If New York Fashion Week is anything to go by, fashion is growing up next season with uncomplicated shapes and colours soon becoming the next big trend.

Black will be making a return as the staple shade for the colder months, but it’s not drab or boring thanks to some feminine and soft touches. Look towards Vera Wang’s collection for inspiration; the show opened with a black boyfriend jacket, tastefully decorated with jumbo organza flower corsages tacked onto the lapel and shoulders. The final result was a slick yet flirtatious outfit.

When winter rolls around low hemlines and knee length skirts will be on everyone’s must-have list. Oscar de la Renta dusted some old Hollywood Glamour over his designs, creating slinky, long gowns which are destined for the red carpet, as well as calf-length straight skirts which were more country club than after party.

Texture is going to be a key aspect of piecing together outfits by the end of the year. Michael Kors scattered fur throughout his collection whilst others opted for feather trims, crinkled lame or luxury cashmere.

Whichever texture you opt for one thing’s for certain; next season, fashion’s getting serious in New York.
