HEAT WAVE

The outfits have been picked out, the suitcase is resting on the bed waiting to be filled and the passport is ready to go but there’s one thing missing; your makeup. Deciding which cosmetics to pack for a week of fun in the sun can be a daunting task but fear not; here at ghd we’re here to help with our guide to the best beauty looks for summer escapades.
The key to looking cool in the heat is to keep your style uncomplicated. Layers of makeup will not only look over the top on holiday, it could be uncomfortable in hot weather and will need constant touch ups if you’re heading somewhere humid. Planning on propping up that beach bar? A clean face with a sweep of waterproof mascara and a swipe of bright red or coral lipstick is all you need to look gorgeous and glamorous.
If you’re a daytime diva then don’t forget your bronzer and highlighter. Swoosh a healthy dose of shimmery bronzer where the sun hits your face and add highlighter to the cheek and brow bones for a dewy and golden glow.
Want to add some tropical colour to your look? A boldly coloured eyeliner in aqua blue or rainforest green drawn onto the upper lash line bestows eyes with a striking style. Now that’s paradise.

BRILLIANT BUNS

Paris Fashion Week saw designers falling in love with the simple hair bun. From small and tight ballerina styles and twisted and looped variations to oversized and fluffy looks and undressed, dishevelled options, the buns on show were varied and inspirational. It didn’t take long for everyone watching the shows to make a mental note – ‘this season, experiment with the humble bun’.
The classic bun is an unrivalled style staple in the world of hair. An elegant outfit isn’t complete without a simple and chic bun to add the finishing touches. It is feminine without being girly, making it the ultimate versatile style. Whether worn with an evening gown or a pair of jeans, the bun never looks out of place.
This elegant style is hugely fashionable this season, so now is the time to experiment with the traditional look and breathe new life into it. At Lanvin, the buns were oversized and rotund, with strands of hair falling out in wispy pieces. The final look was contemporary and cool, resting high on the head in a hat-like position.
For day time chic take a simpler approach and keep the bun low at the nape of the neck, pulling out sections from the bun for an easy going affair.

THE LOW DOWN

Next season’s wintery jumpers and woolly ensembles may be starting to appear in the shops but there’s still time to take advantage of all the wonderful trends that summer has to offer. One of this season simplest styles is the low heeled shoe.
Gone are the day of swaying unsteadily in skyscraper heels, right now less is most certainly more. The low heeled shoe is utterly chic, refined and adult.
For a taste of grown up glam look towards the models at Stella McCartney and Marni. Then look down towards their feet, which were resting comfortably little more than an inch off the floor. The styles may not have the same sensual appeal as a towering platform or sultry stiletto but they create an understated charm which is hard to fake.
If you live in gladiator sandals in the summer months then consider Chloe’s new version, chock full of pliable leather and buckles with the softening addition of a gentle heel. Team such touch footwear with romantic summer dresses for the ideal balance between pretty and punk.
If you’ve fallen head over pedicure for the low heel then get it while you can; the tall, high heeled boot is set to be big news as soon as the temperature drops.

GLITTER BALL

Hold on to your seats lipstick lovers! Danielle Scutt’s spring summer fashion show set tongues wagging but it wasn’t just the clothes that everyone was talking about; the heavily decorated kisses of the models were show stopping, brilliant and beautiful. Each perfect pucker was pressed with shimmering glitter for an eccentric yet stunning result.
With porcelain skin and neutral eye makeup Danielle Scutt’s girls trotted down the runway with glitter ball lips which dazzled and sparkled under the stage lights. The collection was inspired by Spanish flamenco dancing so makeup artist Hannah Murray took her cue from vintage Spanish postcards that were decorated with layers of embroidery and glitter.
This bold and brilliant look is the perfect style for a partying the night away on a summers evening. If you dare to dazzle then first things first – create the perfect canvas with a velvety foundation to neutralise skin tone. Next, add a light layer of mascara and pale brown shading across the lids. Then, fill in the lips with a rich crimson pencil to create a rich, deep base. Finally, use a gloss or balm to dab glamorous pink glitter over the lips. Go disco!
