THE QUIFF
A daring, rockabilly style, the quiff harks back to fifties bad-boys but has been taken on by tough girls who want to inject some high-fashion fun into their appearance. The modern quiff pushes aside the greased up, slick and shiny style of former decades and instead focuses on soft, fluffed up texture.
For summer, the quiff has taken on more of a romantic slant but it doesn't sacrifice its edgy appeal in doing so. The balance between feminine and tough makes the quiff more contemporary and wearable for everyone.
At Lanvin, the quiff, piled high and teetering above the forehead, gained everyone's attention. It had an undeniably hard and eccentric feel, but was kept delicate through teaming the hair with chic cocktail dresses and elegant heels.
Get the look by applying a volumising product like ghd maximise mousse through damp hair and blow-drying it upside down. Once the hair is dry, gently back comb sections from the fringe to the crowns and pin in place. Finish with a generous mist of ghd ultimate hairspray to keep the newly created quiff in place.
Add the perfect little black dress and some nude court shoes and you're bang on trend for 2010.

GORGEOUSLY GOTHIC
The trend for gothic, darkly atmospheric makeup is going nowhere; not even for spring and summer. When other styles turn towards fresh, soft and sun kissed complexions, pastel and bubble-gum pink shading or nude and toffee hues, the moody Goth trend stays firmly rooted in place.
In order to fit with the season, a few tweaks have been made to this shadowy style. The look is altogether more romantic and has a pretty side to it which has not been seen before. The style oozes with a Victorian theatricality; Marc Jacobs led the way, enlisting iconic makeup artist Francois Nars to create a dramatic makeover for his models. Dark, blood red lipstick was painted on in a way which exaggerated the lip line, making it bigger, sharper and bolder, whilst the eyes were lined with streaks of black and white.
Elsewhere on the catwalks, faces powdered in white for a velvety surface became a canvas for layers and layers of charcoal mascara, bold sweeps of black eyeliner and shady lips. It's an unexpected look for spring, but one which can be surprisingly beautiful. The pretty Goth has all eyes on her, proudly making a stylish statement and getting people talking.

OH BOY
Mannish tailoring was big news over winter and it remains a wardrobe essential at this time of year, when spring is rearing its head but the weather is still wet and gray.
Inspiration can be found from boyfriend's and brother's closets as structured jackets, oversized cardigans and straight legged trousers form the staple basics of every fashionable girl's androgynous wardrobe.
If you buy just one piece of clothing from the boyfriend trend, make it the blazer. A versatile garment which will not only see you from season to season, it's a classic choice that will last for many years to come. For a whole-hearted take on the trend, team it with some simple, soft and understated trousers and a crisp white shirt. Add the finishing touches with a chunky, masculine watch and reflective patent, lace-up brogues to take the simple outfit from modest stylishness to high-fashion cool.
When occasion calls for a more girly, sweet look the androgynous trend can still be worked into a womanly outfit. Layer a sharp blazer over cutesy dresses for an instant outfit update. A sleek black jacket against floral prints, pale pastel hues or light, floating fabric provides the perfect balance between masculine and feminine.

LFW 2010 BACK STAGE REPORT
The force behind fashion label Sass & Bide, designer duo Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton, served up a rocker chick collection that concluded the first day of London Fashion Week.
Monochrome pieces dominated the show, accented with slices of gold, bronze and cream.
Embellishment played a big role, with feather, seas shells, pearls and jewels all decorating the slinky jumpsuits and cocktail dresses.
With the ghd team creating the masterful hairstyles that were sent down the catwalk, we went backstage to sneak a look behind the scenes.

Sass & Bide are acclaimed for their fusion of tough, rock girl style and innovative designs. So it was important for both the hair stylists and makeup artists to reflect this in their looks. Petros Petroholis, chief makeup artist for MAC, set things into motion with a demonstration of the cosmetics used for the show.
He took inspiration from the designs in the collection, focussing his attention on creating a graphic look, with a tribal feel to it.
The skin was given a washed-out yet dewy complexion, as foundation was buffed into the face to create an even and flawless finish. The eye was left practically bare; with no sign mascara and only a sweep of MAC Clear Lip Glass across the eyelid and cheekbone to enhance the glossy, reflective look to the skin. “It is all about the lip” Petros explained as a dark, rich berry shaded lip was painted onto the mouth with a brush, creating a full and velvety pout which was finalised with a slick of gloss.
Model's hair took on a fantastical and dramatic style, as ghd hair director Renya created a look which she described as “theatrical” and “futuristic”. Hair was backcombed to create texture, and then rolled into an immense, sculptural twist which extended up and away. Each model was then adorned with a bronze skull cap, which was moulded to the side of the head.
To achieve a more practical, wearable version of this impressive hair Renya suggests creating a French twist, but insists that using the right products is of paramount importance to the look.
Use ghd fat hair lotion, followed by ghd obedience cream to ensure the hair stays frizz free, then saturate the locks with plenty of ghd maximise mousse and tease with a soft brush. Once hair has been rolled up and pinned in place, finish with a misting of ghd ultimate hairspray to set it in place.
