So why Recycle?

The production of electrical and electronic equipment is one of the fastest areas of manufacturing growth in the world; with that in mind the government introduced the WEEE directive in 2007 to address the mounting issue of electrical waste. When electrical items are not recycled and sent to landfill, some of the metals and chemicals can be harmful to the environment, wildlife and human health. Therefore everybody has a part to play in ensuring that old or unwanted items are disposed of in the correct manner.

The WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment)

The WEEE directive was introduced in January 2007, to encourage the reuse, recycling or recovery of electrical and electronic equipment to reduce the amount of electrical products that end up in landfill.

All Electronic and Electrical Equipment placed on the market must now be marked with a symbol (see right) to indicate that the product should not be disposed of in your normal household waste. In addition, the distributor or retailer must provide provisions to allow a customer who is purchasing a new electrical item to recycle their old item free of charge.
