Who will win a place on the ghd art team?

From anarchy to opulence. Our finalists were challenged with creating soft and touchable three dimensional hair with a punk-luxe theme.

HAIR BY RYAN HARRIS

Why do you want to be in the Art Team? During my year in the F.A.M.E team, I worked on a shoot with ghd and really liked what ghd is all about. The current art team produces amazing work, it would be an honour to be able to join them.

Why did you choose a career in hairdressing? Hairdressing found me! I used to be a builder, but was given a chance to work in my friend's salon, and I haven't looked back since.

How did you prepare for this shoot? I looked through magazines and online for inspiration and practised lots of looks in the salon!

Describe your style of work: Sharp and edgy, but always beautiful.

The best thing about your job? Getting to travel around the world, learning new techniques and meeting great people.

Why did you apply for ghd Spotlight? The chance to join the art team is the opportunity of a lifetime! I want to be surrounded by creative people so I had to apply!

WHAT INSPIRED YOUR ORIGINAL ENTRY? I was inspired by the street style movement. I wanted a look that was raw but still girlie.

HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU SAW THE BRIEF FOR TODAY'S SHOOT? Really excited! The brief is amazing and my inspiration has come from reinventing what a modern day punk look is all about.

Describe your style of work: Adaptive, fashion-led and creative with styling and finishing at the forefront of all my looks.

The best thing about your job? I truly love everything! Hairdressing requires hard work and dedication but it's all worth it.

HAIR BY DYLAN BRITTAIN

Why do you want to be in the art team? The work that they do is amazing and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to work with some of the best in the industry.

What inspired your original entry? My inspiration came from a lot of the stuff that's going on the catwalks, so from Moschino all the way through to what's happening on the streets.

Who would be your dream client? My dream client would be Madonna. She's been in the industry for decades and is constantly evolving her look - she's very inspirational.

Why did you choose a career in hairdressing? When I left school I started off as a joiner, but it wasn't for me. I went into hair at 19 and got drawn into the industry as it's so creative.

HAIR BY BILLY FRY

Why did you want to be part of the art team? I was lucky enough to be part of the style squad and I really enjoyed working with the ghd team. I would like to continue that journey and development by being part of the art team.

What inspired your original entry? I was heavily inspired by 90s street trends and also incorporated the Seapunk trend by adding tones of aqua and coral all the way through the hair.

How did you prepare for this shoot? I was really excited when I saw the brief because I love hair that has an edge to it and looks like it has something wrong with it, but it comes together for a completely individual look.

Who is your hairdressing hero? Guido Palau. He creates really beautiful hair that has this slight anarchic twist to it to make it a little bit wrong, but it's always right!

HAIR BY KY WILSON

Why did you apply for ghd Spotlight? I wanted to be a part of a team where I can learn, adapt, develop, share and inspire!

What inspired your original entry? I wanted to create a look on straight hair that incorporated colour to create texture and movement.

How did you prepare for this shoot? I created a lot of moodboards so that I could quickly gather together my ideas!

Describe the look you've created today: The whole punk movement is coming back but in a much more luxurious version of it - so no mohawks or safety pins! It's a lot more consumer friendly and that's the look I've created.
