step one: Prep hair with product
Spritz hair with ghd root lift spray – this will help create texture and lift, which are both key to this updo hairstyle.
step two: Braid loose plaits around head
To help craft a textured base, braid 5-8 loose plaits around the head using a traditional three-strand technique. Don’t worry about position or how neat they are, as you want a natural finish.
step three: Use hairdryer to heat braids
Using the ghd air® hairdryer, gently heat the braids up and down the length on a medium heat and speed.
step four: Undo braids and shake out
Allow the braids to fully cool then undo them and shake them out with your fingers.
step five: Gather hair up into a high pony
Using your fingers to keep a natural texture, gather the hair up into a high ponytail at the top of the head and secure with an elastic. Don’t be afraid to go high with this style.
step six: Pinch base of pony to loosen texture
Once the hair is secured in a ponytail, pinch the base to loosen and add more texture, gently teasing the hair at the front of the head for more volume.
step seven: Split pony in two and tie loose knot
Separate the ponytail in two and tie a loose knot by crossing the two sections and looping the end of one through the middle.
step eight: Create more knots
Continue tying loose knots until you reach the end of the hair. The knots should be secure but not too tight.
step nine: Take ends of knots and grip to head
Take the very ends of the knotted style and tuck them in at the base, use hair grips to fix them to your head.
step ten: Pull out knots for texture
Once secured, begin to pull the knots to create a natural, tousled texture.
step eleven: Soften front of hair
Soften the front of this updo hairstyle with your fingers or by brushing a soft brush in the opposite direction to the hair for extra easy-going glamour.
Tip: Lock the whole look in place by spritzing over the style with ghd final fix hairspray.
