Little Princess Trust
Who the Little Princess Trust is and how they help the young cancer sufferers of today.
The Little Princess Trust started in 2006 in memory of 5-year-old Hannah Tarplee who sadly lost her battle with cancer the previous year. The charity has been set up to supply real hair wigs completely free of charge to children across the UK and Ireland who have lost their hair as a result of cancer treatments and other illnesses.
Since being launched, the charity has given away over 5,000 free wigs to children and offers help to those with cancer up to the age of 24 with as many wigs as necessary during their treatment and hair loss.
Each real hair wig that is made, costs the charity around £500 to make with no charge ever passed onto a family. Alongside the purchased wigs, the charity also supplies wigs made from donated hair. Which means as well as the donations of money, kind supporters around the UK also donate hair that's in good condition.
There is a minimum length requirement of 7"/17cm as this can make a shorter wig but the longer the donation the longer the wigs.
Hair that meets the requirements is sent to China where it is made into wigs and with each one, with the help of specialist suppliers and experienced hairdressers all over the UK and Ireland, the wig is cut and styled to the child's needs to give the most realistic look and feel.
The charity is constantly funding research projects which focus on finding the causes and cures for paediatric cancers and also finding less toxic treatments.
