Stay one step ahead of the style game with this rundown of the hottest hairstyles for the new year.
Goodbye 2017, hello 2018! A new year gives you the chance to refresh and reinvent your look, so we’ve enlisted the help of ghd Global Ambassador Adam Reed to get the inside scoop on the hottest street-style trends for 2018.
1. Crimped hair…but not as you know it!
"It’s time to look back to the future as hair is all about an overdose of texture in 2018. In continuation from last season's obsession with curls, AW17 was big on texture, with 80s-inspired looks taking centre stage on the catwalks. Texture and crimping is definitely back, but not as you know it. It’s now a lot softer and more subtle than it used to be – and it’s certainly more wearable. It’s not necessarily about crimping all of your hair this season, it’s really more about placement of crimping and emphasising and creating texture in the hair."
"Bring the trend up-to-date by avoiding crimping all of your hair. Instead, experiment with different sections for a dual texture effect. Or simply use a crimper to create shape, texture and volume – sometimes you won’t even see that the hair has been crimped but it will have amazing long-lasting volume that has been created using a crimper. You can add texture around the face using a crimper, creating height and volume, as well as shadows and movement.
The important thing to remember with the return of crimping is that you can create so many different styles using a crimper, some can be totally subtle and others way more obvious."
2. Blunt Bobs
"Whenever the seasons start to change, there is always visible movement in people’s fashion and hairstyle choices. Hair becomes frazzled after the summer months due to over exposure to the sun, chlorine and other environmental factors so it is a great time to go for the chop!
Within the celebrity realm, and especially at the recent SS18 fashion week season, we have seen a shift to shorter hair and new ways to wear the style – Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid rocked blunt bobs at the NYFW Alexander Wang show. Whether they embrace a choppy pixie crop, go for a true blunt bob or are playing around with the new on-trend textured lob, there is a shorter style to suit all face shapes."

3. Straight Up Luxe
"It’s time to look back to the future as hair is all about an overdose of texture in 2018. 4. Power Pony
"In the future when people look back at hair of today, I truly believe that the power pony is something that will resonate with this time. Thinking of all the pop icons and celebrities that have worn this look, it always seems to come back around. The key is to follow the diagonal line at the cheekbone up to the high position of the ponytail. Resonating French chic it can equally be worn with an elegant evening dress."

"Add some variation to the traditional straight and blunt power pony, and showcase dual textures by adding body to the look. Pull hair into a tight, low pony with a centre parting. Hair should be super sleek on the head, and then add extreme volume and texture by crimping all of the hair in the ponytail below the elastic. This is totally wearable and my favourite way to wear the crimped trend this year."
5. CoOl girl wAVES
"This year the waves are kicking towards the face with a fine veil section around the hairline that comes away and opens up the face.
This is something that is completely new and fresh and by kicking it in, especially from the top, keeps it very head hugging and anti-pretty. Using the ghd platinum styler keeps a leaner silhouette whilst maintaining shine and bounce to it. Keeping away from a salty texture, healthy shine and a straighter end is important. "
