On why one should invest in quality tools:

Good hair tools are essential when it comes to maintaining the integrity of your hair. No matter how many heat protectants or hair masks you use, if your tools are too hot or damaging to your hair, your hair will never reach its potential, and paying for blowouts, products, vitamins to make up for a damaged mane will end up costing you a fortune. I always suggest paying more for items that are higher quality, that will last a long time, and that you know you can trust, than paying less in the short term for something you will have to replace more frequently or may not end up being happy with. Unless you have very short hair, our hair is on our heads for a long time, so take good care of it!

Healthy Hair Tips from Justine Marjan

On the biggest lesson she has learned to date:

One of the biggest myths when it comes to heat styling is that the hotter the iron the better. ghd has in house scientists who have tested the effects of heat on the hair and found that the optimal temperature for styling is 365 degrees, regardless of hair type. Any hotter and you will blow out the cuticle layer of the hair, causing damage, dryness, and color fadage. Any cooler and your hair will fall flat. 365 degrees is actually the same temperature that glass blowers use to melt and manipulate glass to a new shape without it breaking. I was weary when I first heard this, and skeptical that the temperate would prove results on my clients with coarse and frizzy hair types, but I’ve been using the irons and couldn’t be happier.

On hair TLC:

Popping vitamins regularly! There’s only so much we can do to maintain the integrity of the hair from the outside, that maintaining it from the inside is essential to maximize results on our strands. I’ve noticed the best results when stress is at a minimum, lightening the hair is at a minimum, when you are drinking enough water, and when you are getting enough vitamins and nutrients to promote hair health.
