ZOE IRWIN'S BRIDAL HAIR ADVICE
Advice for the style that works if your hairdresser fails to show up on your wedding day.
Waves in hair work very well for this situation, as once the hair has movement it can be styled more easily. Waves work well on hair that is loosely pinned up or more dressed and twisted into a chignon. I would advise practising for this scenario. A hairdresser can also show you how to do a simple style for this emergency but my failsafe style is an undone soft bun, that sits either in the middle of the back or for a more vintage feel at the base of the neck to the side.
First apply product every 4cm in sections throughout the head.
Mist root lift spray closely to the roots of the hair and then as a lighter mist through the mid-lengths and ends by holding the bottle further away from the head.
Blow-dry this into your hair using the ghd air® hairdryer and a ghd natural bristle brush. The root lift spray will give you a control on the hair to hold the style in place and make styling it up, so much simpler.
Take sections of hair and wrap them around the larger part of the ghd curve® creative curl wand. Leave out the roots, wrapping hair from about 4cm from the roots and leave the ends out by gently holding onto the last few centimetres between your fingers. Wrap all the hair away from the face in the same direction.
Trace a triangle section with your fingers at the crown and lift this hair and tease through the roots with a comb to give you a soft backcombed base, smooth over with the comb on the top section leaving a lifted crown which is über flattering. Run your finger through the waves for a softer undone look or brush through for a more dressed finish. With your head now back, take all the hair in your hands to form a ponytail section and wrap around an elastic to secure.
Gently twist the ponytail and wrap around the base, take hairpins and secure the hair every few centimetres. To hold really well, weave the pins through the hair in a sewing action and twist the end of the pin together. Softly pull out the bun when it has been pinned up. You can also pull out sections around the face for further softness.
For a larger version of this, create two ponytails in the back section 2cm apart and simply knot the two sections together before pinning up.
For shorter hair repeat the first few steps by blow-drying in the root lift spray. Blow-dry sections with a mid-size natural bristle brush, take the ghd curve® classic wave wand and wrap the mid part of the hair, a few centimetres from the root around the wand to give a fuller look and pretty wave. Take hairspray and mist lightly onto your fingers and run your fingers through the style to give a natural look hold and lux shine.
