Join ghd behind the scenes at Paris Fashion Week on 3rd March 2023 and discover the Victoria Beckham AW23 collection, with hair styled by Anthony Turner.
Hair stylist Anthony Turner and his team created a chic yet nonchalant hair style that nods towards fashion illustration, using the NEW ghd duet 2-in-1 hot air styler.
GHD X VICTORIA BECKHAM
“The hair look this season feels very fresh and cool. I wanted the hair to be neat but still showcase each model’s strength. It really compliments the proportions of the collection. ghd is my go-to styling brand, which is why we’ve partnered together for 7 seasons so far. I can always rely on ghd to create versatile hair looks to really support and celebrate the collection,” says Victoria Beckham
“ghd Duet Style does everything a hairdryer & a straightener does but combines the two together, meaning the time it takes to style the hair is significantly reduced (which for a session stylist is a huge bonus!) and helps keep hair healthy at the same time,” says Anthony Turner.
GET THE POISED PONY LOOK
“This season Victoria wanted her woman to ultimately feel effortless but needed a hairstyle that would work well with the proportions of the collection. She spoke about the hairstyle feeling home made and organic and relatable to the everyday person,” says Anthony Turner.
2. DRY AND STYLE
Next, work through the hair in section with the NEW ghd Duet Style which works on damp hair to dry & style simultaneously for sleek, smooth, shiny hair.
3. ADD TEXTURE
Once hair is dry distribute two pumps of ghd Sleek Talker all over the hands, so it gets evenly distributed through the hair, and brush the hair back away from the face, using ghd Perfect Ending lightly as you go to smooth out baby hairs. Tie a length of elastic (around 5 inches) around the pony at the nape of the neck securing with a knot.
4. FINISHING TOUCHES
A Q&A WITH ANTHONY TURNER
What is the inspiration behind the hair look today? Why was this the chosen look?
The inspiration is a very chic elegant yet nonchalant hairstyle that nods towards fashion illustration. It’s a hairstyle that works perfectly with the proportions of the clothing.
How did you work with Victoria to create the hair look for the AW23 show?
Victoria knows her stuff! She wanted her woman this season to ultimately feel effortless but needed a hairstyle that would work well with the proportions of the collection. She spoke about the hairstyle feeling home made and organic and relatable to the everyday person.
What ghd tools/product have been used and why have you chosen them?
We used the ghd Duet Style 2-in-1 Hot Air Styler to achieve a smooth shape on top, and the ghd Unplugged Styler on the ends to give a natural yet more defined finish. We then we used ghd Sleek Talker to promote the look of healthy, glossy, shiny hair.
What are your top tips for re-creating this look at home?
To get this look at home, try just using your hands and fingers, not a brush, to achieve the organic feel of the hairstyle. With a touch of the ghd Sleek Talker on your fingers, rake through your hair and enjoy the happy little mistakes that happen, which go far to create personality within the hairstyle. Use a length of elastic instead of a hair band to tie the hand, you may need a second pair of hands to help but the tying the pony with elastic will ensure that the tension is always tight and this sleek chic pony won’t come loose!
How is ghd duet style transforming hair styling?
For me it has to do with maintaining optimum amount of health in the hair. The ghd Duet Style tool does everything that a hairdryer and a straightener does but combines the two together meaning the time it takes to style the hair is significantly reduced (which for a session stylist is a huge bonus!) and helps keep hair healthy at the same time.
Why is ghd Duet Style a game changing tool in your kit bag?
I’m one of those people that always has to be ahead of the game, and I want people to say, ‘Oh wow, what’s this? I need it!’ Not only this, but also because I value the hair health of the person who sits in my chair, damaging their hair just to achieve a look just isn’t an option for me. I need a tool that’s quick, sleek, stylish and most importantly keeps hair healthy.
What are the trends you see being big for AW23? What’s your favourite trend of the season?
We are seeing a lot of tougher looks this season with lots of gel and shine. Hairstyles that mean business! I personally love this and want to see more of it.
What has changed in the world of hair as we move towards being more open when it comes diversity in hair styles and textures?
I think we must ask ourselves why we are moving towards being open… why haven’t we been open in the past and why aren’t we fully there yet? I think only then can we say honestly what those changes are.
What are your favourite tools by ghd and why?
I think it would have to be the ghd Duet Style for the simple fact that this tool has completely changed the way I can achieve smooth shiny beautiful hair. I can style hair confidently knowing that the person in my chair is going to walk away happy.
